Holding Account

What is a holding account?

If you cancel a reservation 31 days or more in advance of the arrival date, your points go back into your regular account. If you cancel a reservation 30 days or less before arrival, these points do not go back into your regular account, they go into a holding account.  This means that these points can ONLY be used for reservations made less than SIXTY (60) days before arrival. They also cannot be banked or borrowed, so must be used before the end of the use year in which they are in.

What if I change a reservation within less than 30 days of arrival?

If you change a reservation and use less points, the same thing happens to those unused points. They go into holding.

What options do I have with points in holding?

  • Points can be used for a new reservation during your current Use Year as long as the reservation is booked 60 or less days before the new arrival date.
  • For DIRECT members (or folks that bought resale before 2012) points can also be used for a new reservation during your current Use Year in 2 other ways (From the Disney website):
    • For the Disney Collection* (except Disneyland Resort in California and Tokyo Disney Resort hotels), or Concierge Collection*, you can make the reservation more than 4 months before the end of your Use Year for a Check-In date that is 60 or less days before the new Check-In date.
    • For Disney Collection reservations at Disneyland Resort in California and Tokyo Disney Resort hotels, or the World Collection, as long as the reservation is booked 60 or less days before the new Check-In date.

Ugh, Holding sounds awful! What alternatives do I have?

Not much. The only other option is don't cancel the reservation and try to rent it out as is. See "Rentals and Transfers" for details on renting reservations.
